The following selection of Cast Iron Grave markers is a small number from the many found on three visits. Two visits of which were just to South Australia where most of them are, and one visit to the Eyre and York peninsular in South Australia and then on to the Northern Territories to Alice Springs and other places in the north part of Australia.

Cast iron marker thought at first to be typical Etna design BUT on the back is a makers mark saying Smith & Wellstood Ltd., Bonnybridge Foundry, and on the stove enamelled inscription plate on the extreme bottom right beneath the surrounding line is the words "Simpson Fnls Adelaide."
IN LOVING MEMORY OF ADA DEARLY BELOVED WIFE OF HANS CARL MAX HUSER DIED MAY 27 1907. AGED 23 YEARS. AUST16 is a similar pattern to AUST15 but without Stove Enamelling and losing its paint work by weathering. However it is also a rarity as the name plate is an enamelled metal plate. |
